As I am sitting here waiting for Chloe to finish her Occupational Therapy I wanted to share how very important it is to continue what they do in therapy…at home.
It is our job as parents to step up and take what she/he learns or is working on in their therapy sessions and adapt that at home. Children with Autism require repetitive learning. So if Chloe is working on dressing herself in OT therapy, it is my job to work on it at home. If I am dressing her at home she won’t see it as a skill she needs to learn and retain.
Chloe does specific stretches and exercises in Physical and Occupational Therapy. Her therapist are amazing at giving me copies of them to do at home. She won’t always let me do them with her, but I try every day. Gotta make the effort ☺️
In Speech Therapy they are working on “Wh” questions. Her therapist gave me a print out of questions to practice. I do these throughout the day just in general conversation. I even make up songs using them. Be creative 😉
I know it isn’t always easy to work with our kiddos at home. Chloe thinks therapy is done at therapy….not at home. So again I have to be creative on how I do it. Make it part of their daily schedule. It is do important we are involved. You can do it🙂
I hope all of you are healthy and well. Thank you so much for reading my blog today 😍
