How I Unschool Math

Hi everyone! I hope your week is going great so far.

As Chloe and I are diving into the world of unschooling even more we are learning more and more ways to step away from workbooks and do more hands on and fun activities to learn from. Today I will posting about Unschooling Math. Chloe already loves counting and numbers. She use to and still does count EVERYTHING!! These are the ways I am unschooling Math right now.

*Blocks are wonderful for teaching. They can be used for: Counting, sorting by sizes, shapes, patterns and even colors. Unifix cubes are great for the same plus adding, subtracting and even patterns. Plastic Legos can be used for the same as above plus writing numbers on them and putting them in order, adding, subtracting, play missing numbers and stacking in order of the numbers.

*Number Flashcards: I use to lay these around and Chloe would play with them for hours. She could point out numbers before she could say them. These can be used for learning their numbers, add & subtract, and a game Chloe loves is to stack blocks by the number she has.

*Practice writing numbers on paper, dry erase board, chalkboard, salt tray, and even shaving cream.

* Find File Folder Games on File Folder Fun.com

*Cooking; Measuring and following directions.

*Telling time by looking at the clock or buy a small learning clock and sit with it and teach your child by the hour, 1/2 hr and by the minutes.

* YouTube songs about Time, Money and other Math concepts. Jack Hartman and Kidstv123 are awesome channels.

* Games and Puzzles. Chloe loves Candyland, Don’t Spill the Beans and matching games. I am trying to get her to like Chutes and Ladders.

* Books: Chicka Chicka 123 is one of Chloe’s favorites. There are so many ones to choose from.

* Build a Fort

*Sensory Bins with measuring cups and spoons

These are the ones we are working with right now. There are many more ideas, but she is enjoying what we are doing right now. I know as we learn more we will discover more and more fun stuff to do. If any of you have any ideas to share please do in the comments. I would love to hear them.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a blessed day
