All About Chloe

Happy Sunday everyone! Can you believe it’s already July. Today I want to post all about our girl Chloe.
Chloe was born February 15th, 2010. She is now 8 years old. She was diagnosed with Autism at 3 years old at a public school preschool evaluation and again at an evaluation center in our state. She functions on what is described as a moderate autistic level. The Dr. called it “Classic Autism”. Chloe can speak, but doesn’t have back and forth conversations. She can answer yes/no questions and simple questions requiring 1 to 2 word answers. She needs constant supervision and isn’t aware of most dangers, although she is slowly learning them. Chloe is extremely rigid about her routines and the placement of her belongings. She was daytime potty trained by 4 and nighttime potty trained by 7. Chloe has many stims that include hand flapping, scripting, vocal noises, repetitive movements and pacing. When she is anxious or overstimulated she will sing songs over and over. Chloe still screams when she doesn’t get her way or throws herself on the floor. Lately she has been hitting herself, which is hard to watch. She takes Clonidine to sleep and must have her bed just right or it’s a 1 hour fit. We pulled her from public school because we were moving and she was struggling with anxiety about school. She had wonderful teachers, but I believe the atmosphere of school was hard for her. So we are in our 3rd year of homeschool. Some days and wonderful and others are really, really tough.
But…Chloe is a happy girl with a great smile. She loves to be tickled and really likes to sing. She has an amazing memory and can read very well. She loves to draw and swim. Her favorite movie, for the moment, is The Secret Life of Pets. She adores her siblings and became an Aunt this year. Although she is not to comfortable with the whole “Baby” thing. Hopefully someday they will be close.
That’s our girl in a nutshell. I hope you will continue to join us as we share our journey. Have a Blessed Day.
